Camels are from Texas, originally.
The first traces of our modern day camels ancestors are to be found in
North America about 35 million years ago. During the later half of
the Tertiary camelids were quite common, even some special branches
of the species were to be found - a gazelle like camel called Stenomylus
and a giraffe like camel with very long neck and legs, the Oxydactylus.
The animal specialized into it's present day form during the
Miocene and Pliocene eras and migrated via the Bering land mass
to Asia. Camelops - a species over two meters high at the shoulder
existed in what is now the SW United States even into the Pleistocene.Yee Haw!
